Is English the best language?

Using art to look differently at the world

We’re more connected than ever and the language of that connection is often English. By having this one main way of communicating, what do we gain? What do we lose?

I’ve taken a look at this through the lens of a provocative creative research project. I invite you to explore your thoughts with me and ask you to share them in the form at the bottom of the page.

How this sound art project was set up

All project participants were put in a “verbal box,” where they were told what they could say and could only share their real opinions privately afterwards in an interview. These world citizens are special, complex people, just like you with fascinating perspectives.

The different voice levels, rhythm and style used in the clip show their diversity and underline that they (and we as individuals in society) have the opportunity for influence regardless of limitations. My approach is purposely playful – being serious isn’t the only way we make valuable reflections.

This project is meant to be provocative enough to get your wheels turning. I’m interested in your reflections.
